Haiti Credit Union Earthquake Appeal

15 Jan 2010

Sadly, Haiti is suffering again, this time from massive destruction, death, injury and homelessness in Port-au-Prince due to the recent devastating earthquake.

According to the Red Cross up to three million people have been affected and thousands feared dead. Many victims have taken to sleeping in the streets.

Many credit unions and their members have been affected by the earthquake. According to The World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) there are 400,000 plus credit union members on the island.

Credit Union Foundation Australia (CUFA) has established the Haiti Credit Union Earthquake Appeal to assist affected credit unions and members. Please show your support by contributing to this appeal. WOCCU will nominate relief agencies to receive the funds when the appeal closes on 29 January 2010.

The CUFA Haiti Earthquake Appeal funds will go towards helping this already poor country rebuild their credit union movement. All contributions over two dollars are tax deductible. You can donate online, or send a cheque payable to CUFA, for CUFA Haiti Earthquake Appeal, to GPO Box 4720, Sydney NSW 2001.

mecu has also made a donation to the appeal.
